No shoes in the classroom - Our columnist visits a school in Thailand, where
she discovers differences, similarities, and a new perspective on teaching ...
I was told by Sawnoi that Thai students are not allowed to wear shoes in the
classroom.
If the shoe fits -
THE more I look at shoes, the more I know there are only two types — no matter what name, style, season, colour, hide or any other unique selling point marketers try to plug.
Type One: Shoes you can live in. These are flats that respect the curves of your feet and are, more often than not, unfashionable. Full stop.
Type Two: Shoes you parade in. They make you taller, have the power, according to some, to boost your confidence and are podiatrists’ worst nightmare. Aesthetically, they look wonderfully sexy, almost like small architectural feats in themselves.
Some people have told me that “heels can be as comfortable as flats” but I have yet to find a striking pair of four-inch heels that delivers the promise. The last time I tried a pair of high heeled pumps (at Rockport, no less), I felt like an imbalanced stilt walker.
Personally, I doubt comfortable heels exist.
